When we think about basketball we always think about scoring
points. Playing in our backyard or street basketball we always want to score.
Every shot we make its of tremendous value in a game of 21. What's bigger than
all of that it's making it to the NBA and being in the top of the all-time
scoring list. That's where Kobe Bryant is at with the 4th spot and only
trailing, the greatest player of all-time, Michael Jordan by 30 points for the
3rd spot.
This is a significant accomplishment for Bryant because all his life he's been
compared to Jordan. Now he has a chance to surpass him. Jordan has 32,292
points and Bryant currently has 32,262 points. Bryant is in his 19th season and
is still a good scorer so there's a chance he might tie or pass Jordan in 1 or
2 games. Doing this in the 1st game would make it an even more significant
accomplishment since it will be against Tim Duncan and the Spurs. Why?
During his entire career the only other player to have such similar success in
that span in the NBA has been Tim Duncan. They both have 5 championships, at
least 1 MVP and Finals MVP trophy, and at least 10 NBA 1st Teams and All-Star
games appearances. So it would be huge to tie or pass MJ against no other than
Duncan and the Spurs.
It doesn't have the same feeling doing it against the Timberwolves or the
Pacers. And it would take a miracle to do it on the 4th game against Kevin
Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Either way it happens it will be a
blessing when it is set and done having Bryant as the 3rd highest scoring
player in the NBA all-time list next to Kareem Abdul Jabbar (1), Karl Malone
(2), MJ, Wilt Chamberlain (5), Shaquille O’Neal (6), Moses Malone (7), Elvin
Hayes (8), Dirk Nowitzki (9), Hakeem Olajuwon (10).
